Awakening with the
Movies
David Hoffmeister uses the best
spiritual movies as modern-day parables. Jesus shared his profound wisdom,
light, and love through the use of parables. He taught from a fishing boat,
from the mount, during meals, or anywhere he was amongst people. He was a
public mystic; his was a ministry that demonstrated the Christ. Jesus used
parables because he wanted people to be able to relate to his teachings.
David uses movies as teaching demonstrations because people
can relate to them; while watching a movie they can relax and let their hearts
open up. Watching movies is an enjoyable way to wake up and heal. It is not as
threatening as being, for example, in a family situation or confrontational
relationship. The best spiritual movies can help
to “collapse time” in the sense that they can be used to get in touch with the
unconscious in an experiential way.
